It is, at least when it comes to philosophy, absolute shit if you want to attain an above highschool level of understanding. You're much better off using plato.stanford.edu.
I remember years ago when I tried to look up some terms just for fun and stuff like "epistemological contextualism" didn't even have a site on wikipedia.

childhood is thinking that Wikipedia is great
tenagehood is thinking that Wikipedia is inherently fallacious as a learning tool
maturity is understanding that Wikipedia is actually priceless
T. Phil PhD, Wikipedia is respected as a source by virtually everyone (even by the curators of the SEP)

Anybody using it to that end is stupid. The value of wikipedia, and IMO it's excellent value (seeing as its free and easy to navigate), is to brush up on the basics so you have a launching point for what you want to learn.

I have hazy memories of high school but I don't remember it being even half as in-depth and complex as the opening paragraph of any Wikipedia article, never mind the scope and how up to date school programs are.
Perhaps Wikipedia is largely equivalent to some good introductory classes in uni.
