one mistaken order, the charge was actually a considerable feat of arms, successfull carrying the russian position, driving back a considerably larger russian cavalry force and generally fucking shit up.
pity it was directed against the wrong target and decimated the formation in the process, but rasher charges have been ordered deliberately as opposed to by accident, in terms of stupid it rates with Neys attack at waterloo

That painting is not of the charge of the light brigade.
It's 'Scotland Forever!' by Lady Butler and depicts the charge of the Scots Greys at Waterloo.

So what was Russia's war aim? Did they just want to end Ottoman control over Romania or were they going to go straight for Constantinople?

Neither. The Russians were trying to annex the remains of the Crimean Khanate, which is now southern Ukraine.

The same thing Russia angles for any time they start a war or fuck around in the Balkans/Ottoman territory/Black Sea: autistica obsession with warm water ports.

>autistica obsession with warm water ports.
You say that like it's a bad thing. Warm water ports are huge especially when pretty much the rest of your coastline is on the arctic

I'm just saying. When you Russia does anything in that region you shouldn't even have to ask why. They've been doing it for centuries. They, by enabling pan-Slavic irredentism in Serbia to fuck with Austria, helped start a world war over it. Russia would destroy the rest of the world if it meant access to/control of the Turkish Straights.
