What caused Islamic Golden Age?
>>
>>2748287
Muslim invaders capturing Byzantine libraries.
>>
>>2748287
Persian empire got replaced with an even bigger empire. Romans also go their shit pushed in so there wasnt a real rival to the west.
>>
Iranians are going to appear out of nowhere and say it was actually persian golden age
>>
>>2748287
The Christian world was fractured and markets became relatively small and closed (because feudalism) while the Islamic World was unified and one big open market where goods and information could spread with relative ease, linking cultural hotspots like Mediterranean Europe, North Africa, the Levant and India.

Have you thanked a merchant today?

Also, Greek books.
>>
>>2748287
Not Islam
>>
>>2748287
Lots of money, some from controlling all the trade routes and some from plundering other countries. Also Aryan blood.

Justinian closes the Platonic Academy → Many philosophers flee abroad, some relocate in the Sassanian realm → Classical Greek texts are translated to Persian → Rashidun Caliphate conquests Persia → Knowledge pours in, Arabs start reading and translating the works of the ancient Greeks
>>
>>2748303
Well an overwhelming majority of polymaths, researchers, academics, scholars, and scientists were either Iranians or non-Arabs so....
>>
>>2748330
>Justinian closes the Platonic Academy
>Implying Athens was important city at the time
>Implying Constantinople didn't have bigger, newer Academy
>>
>>2748344
Because Iranians made up an overwhelming majority of the population of the Abbasid Caliphate, and the center of Abbasid aristocracy came from Arab colonies established in Eastern Iran, and the intellectual movements that sparked much of the debate and publication craze began earliest in eastern Iran while spreading West gradually which gave the region a headstart of a century or more compared to the regions that joined in later.
>>
>>2748553
>Because Iranians made up an overwhelmingly majority of the population of the Abbasid Caliphate.
Evidence?
>Arab colonies in Eastern Iran
Evidence?
>>
>>2748287
Not behaving like Muslims.
Unironically, on mobile rn so I can't write much but if you read texts about culture and society in that period it was unislamic compared to today
>>
>>2748287
The rise of an itinerant student class pursuing scholarship for personal pride, interest, and profit. Same thing that helped give rise to Europe's Renaissance and Enlightenment.
>>
>>2748562
false, they were devoutly muslim . not sure what unislamic means
>>
>>2748556
>>Arab colonies in Eastern Iran
Tends of thousands of Arabs settled in Merv, from which they conquered most of Khorasan that would become the birthplace and earliest focal point of the very first Golden Age scholars.

It's also the place where the Abbasids raised their flags of rebellion, gathered Arab and Persian allies, and marched on the Umayyads.
>>
>>2748287
Fantasies in the minds of embarrassed muslims.
>>
>>2748599
Okay so one example. Show me various other ones of heavy Arab colonies in predominant Iranian heartlands.
>>
>>2748599
Murdering people and taking their shit does not a golden age make.
>>
literally spoils
>>
>>2748622
>Okay so one example
It's THE example. Some 50,000 Arabs, who would go on to conquer and rule the area and intermarry with the local population. What are you even trying to get at here?
>>
>>2748636
You're right, which is why that's not at all what happened.
>>
>>2748641
The "Islamic" Golden Age did not specifically start or originate in Central Asia. Also Arab admixture even back then would've been a tiny drop in an ocean of Iranics and Turkic peoples.

Arabs did not start any sort of golden age with a military colony.
>>
>>2748657
I didn't say they did. I said that Iranians made up a sizeable proportion of Islamic scholars because the political and cultural center of the Abbasids was Eastern Iran, where Arab colonies in places like Merv, Bukhara, etc created a mixed Arab-Persian high society. It's why so many ethnic Iranian scholars nonetheless had Arabized names and claimed some form of Arab lineage regardless of whether it was true or not.
>>
>>2748648
Neither does fucking boys, sheep, camels or donkeys.
>>
>>2748698
You're right, which is also why that's not at all what happened.

Just read this
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_Golden_Age
>>
Their religion was fresh, and clean at the time.
No naysays really disagreeing over the text heavily. By the high middle ages, the islamosphere was declining internally due to threats from everywhere fracturing it's unity along with internal schisms widening that still exist to this day because Islam has no set standard interpretation of the Koran.

tldr: capturing major silk road routes lead to prosperity and rise of literacy from spread of paper-making
>>
>>2748728
They were disagreeing over their text so hard they had periodic street gang fights between rival schools and with the Caliphal authorities over it, and some of their most flourishing eras were also periods of great internal disunity and political fracturing.

Set standards of interpretation don't really matter all that much, not compared to the real issue at hand: the degenerative force of populism and vulgarization.

What you mean by fresh and clean is that Islam was actually a somewhat exclusive club for a time, fairly limited to the aristocracy or to the growing merchant middle class or privileged tribes dominating the region.
>>
>>2748287
Things tend to get pretty good when you globalize your economy and start to research all the lost knowlege around you.
>>
Muslim and liberal historians making it up.
>>
While I haven't seen it much in this thread why does the Muslim Golden Age trigger some people so much?

It's like some people see the idea of it as an attack on their own person.
>>

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guYMAycJgYA&t=0s

Caspian Report did a pretty informative video on this subject, though he focuses on the scientific achievement in particular. Regardless, it is a great summary of how the Islamic golden age began.
>>
>>2748801
because dae sandniggers

That's literally it.
>>
>>2748794
Have you read at least 1 line about this topic to come up with the opinion that it's bullshit or do you just see "islam" and "golden age" and your brain goes into a halt?
>>
>>2748808
Shit didnt see>>2748731
>>
>>2748597
They were heavy drinkers for example and also produced poetry about alcohol and sex
>>
>>2748311
Good answer. I don't understand why the Islamic golden age triggers so many people.
>>
Persians wuz smart. Arabs ruined everything ever basically
>>
>>2748970
That doesn't really make them less Islamic anymore than Medieval Christian morals being less strict than Puritan or Victorian morals made the former less Christian than the latter.

They were Islamic in a very different way.
