Language tends to be the difference between a Nation State, and a Empire. Or a feudal Kingdom and a Nation State.

Think of states like Turkey, its not really "a state", its more like a collection of areas and city states, thats somehow under a single administration.
So for Turkey, once you leave the Turk area of it, its basically no longer Turkey.
The same is true for many areas of Africa, due weird borders.
Or many Arab nations, since post Empire nations don't exactly have any form of cohesion, even more so in a post Ottoman world.

I would also argue that most Feudal nations or city states, that those are not a Nationality, simply because the glue that binds them culturally is very very weak.
Outside of the nobility having a social class, they generally are not united.

Palestinians are just non-jews that live in the territory claimed/controlled by Israel. They can be local Christians or Muslims. idk about Macedonians, they aren't even in the old kingdom of Pella. The former Yugoslavia is a shatterbelt of cultures and I don't know the difference. Nationality is a thing though, just perceptual. All nationalities arise in one way or another and could often be called "fake" and their beginning until widely accepted. Take the Brits, a mix of Celtic, Roman, Germanic, and Scandinavian. American could also be considered a nationality to some, or various smaller ones.

Most modern nations never existed as a specific nation before the twentieth century. It doesn't make them any less legitimate; the whole concept of a nation is artificial anyway.

I disagree. Palestinians have more of an identity in the sense that they know where they came from, they stayed in one place for almost 1,000 years meanwhile Jews were fleeing from place to place all the time.

At this point, Israeli's are way more united as far as a Pan-Jewish identity which i'd argue is stronger. They all have unique Jewish languages and considering Palestinians don't have mutual customs and a language and holidays like Jews do, it's hard to say they have more of an identity.

Just look at the diversity of right-wing Jewish groups in Israel, they all came together on their hatred of Arabs. Even though most of them would come to America and people would assume they were Arabs

Well, actually, if they're truly native to palestine, why are they calling themselves arab? I get that its for geopolitical reasons and thats why "arab" identity was created, and partly around the time / because of the formation of israel, but its still suspicious to me that their neighbhours like syrians don't identify as arabs. But palestinians don't seem to have any notion of pre-arab identity, which lends support to the idea they actually are arabs from saudi. Their appearance of most of them would certainly back that up to. Ironic that people try to use the appearance of israelis to point out they aren't native to the area.
