Post your favourite /his/torical artwork ITT.
It can be anything, preferably realism or pre-realist but again - anything goes.

Matejko made some really crowded paintings. Very impressive though. The Battle of Grunwald is a huge huge painting.

Stanczyk is absolutely perfect with all the symbolism behind it.

Finally, Turner. Also I'm surprised the lewd art hasn't come in yet.
Comfy
can we just turn this into a general art thread?

This artwork is pretty good, I own it. It's by Ralph Wall but I can't find a single photo or thing about it besides this.

This painting shows a king's jester on a ball. On the table is a note signyfing the won battle of Orsha and the loss of Smoleńsk land. While the lords are partying in the room behind only(ironically) the jester ponders about the defeat and what outcomes this cound bring(suffice to say they were pretty bad).
Also though the window a coment is seen - an omen of ill fate.
This XIX century painting shows how irresponsible the polish nobility was which resulted in the patritions of Poland. Here, only the "stupid" jester cares about the future.

Does music count as artwork?
I went to that touring Pompeii exhibit, and you when you first walk in, they play music from the HBO show Rome, which I thought is ridiculous when they have access to actual historical music like this

Quick question, for a paper I'm writing.
What were the tiers of art that French schools would judge their applicants on?
Can't find it on google and I haven't gotten decent sleep cause of finals.
I remember it was something like:
Shit tier: still life paintings
Ok tier: figure paintings
Good tier: genre paintings
Great tier: ???
God-tier: historical paintings
