TL;DR my friend made a post about Aaron Russo's documentary and he wants to create a society where we remove money and focus on people helping people for the benefit of our species. This is the video link:

Utopian idiocy

Human greed is simply what happens. Some people are so adjusted to the hierarchical food-chain that they'll always want 'more' than fight for the social good.

Personally, i'll stand behind it, but i know that on the larger scale of things this doesn't work that easily unless we can change the human psychology.

Hmm...how does one change human psychology?

Literally what communism is supposed to be

Read the bread book

Tell him I want to join too, but I don't like getting my hands dirty (Germaphobe) so I'll just sit inside and read all day, and maybe play some vidya.

Gengnineer it until it ain't human no more.

The conundrum with this is the instinct for tribalism is the same instinct that made civilization possible to begin with, and oddly, it's also the same instinct that lets large groups of people get along... So it's a catch-22.

But hey, CRISPR. Surely nothing terrible will happen.

That's what i was thinking. You could genetically engineer it.

So eh, i suppose we're off to some Huxley's Brave New World out here then? Pass me the soma bro.

On the subject of genetic engineering, do you think it would be possible for humans to be engineered into a hivemind species?

You could turn up the mirror neurons to 11, I suppose, but I suspect, until we know more about how the brain works, that would have some very unintended side effects.

Hivemind isn't really an option with genetic engineering alone, as there's no good long distance transmission device, nor are any of the biological versions thereof present in nature (ie. low frequency transmissions) likely to fit inside a human. But, so long as we're on the subject of supertech, if you wanna get into cyberware, you may have something.

Back when broadcast television was more popular, I suppose we were all hive minded to some degree. With the internet on on-demand viewing, that's kinda falling apart as everyone retreats to their own self-reinforcing echo chambers. (Not that the boob tube wasn't worse, in some ways, nor did it entirely prevent you from selective viewing.)

Money doesn't suddenly increase the resources of the planet. If you want you make the planet better off on average that would mean a significant decrease in standard of living for the powerful countries of the planet. People and their governments are willing to give up what they have for any vague concept of equality.
>>
>>2725851
Also, is thus actually a joke or is your friend willfully ignorant.
>>
>>2726029
Granted, part of the problem with that, is that nearly all the innovation that increases technology, makes it available for the developing nations, and the mechanisms that disseminate it among them, thus raising the average standard of living, comes from those wealth concentrated nations.

I feel as though it could be possible. If you brainwash enough people, it's bound to get the desired result. I definitely agree that we need to understand more about the brain.

If we do become a hive mind, would that take away or modify our concept of free-will?
