Was the japanese navy better than the royal navy during WW2?
They barely fought, and the UK had bigger problems in Europe, but considering the strength of the UK always lied in its navy, it really feels they underperformed.

Legitimately interested, bumping

They were much, much better in carrier ops. Which is all that would really matter on their most probable battleground. On the other hand, they sucked shit at anti-submarine warfare. Basically both navies were good instruments for the wars they had to fight.

Have to bump

It was supposed to be weaker but the Japanese didn't care for treatis. Their militarization made their navy stronger than Royal Navy I think. The RN couldn't even defend Singapore.

The Japanese didn't invade Singapore by sea, you fucking retard.

>"With a great deal of luck, this strategy might just have worked again if Singapore had been adequate for the task. It was not, thanks to Treasury economies. The total bill for the installations was £16.5 million with a further £9 million for the fuel oil that was to be stored at the base. This was all the Admiralty dared asked for from a Treasury short of cash and obsessed by thrift.22 As a result, the dockyard facilities were too small for a fleet needed to take on the Japanese with any hope of winning."
>Lawrence James, The Rise and Fall of the British Empire, part 4, chapter 8.

So far away from the British Isles the defensive strategy is always conjugated with the naval potential. Retard.
>>
>>2722919
Yes. And their defensive strategy meant fuck all because the Japanese invaded by land, not by sea, which they did not expect. For fucks sakes.

Then how do you supply your fortress before or during (any kind of) attack? The logistics failed them. Actually the whole idea was outdated. It was supposed to be the new Gibraltar but it wasn't 18th century anymore.
>>
>>2722965
The battle lasted for about a week, not long enough for the supply situation to become desperate so the RN's ability to safeguard convoys is would have been irrelevant anyway. However, since British, Malayan and Australian forces had been fighting for two months beforehand, I would say that they were doing a pretty good job regardless.

And you sound like an imbecile.

Better at carrier ops during day, worse at all ops during night. Better torpedoes except when they get shot and blow the ship in two. Long Lance range is overrated, they had horrible hit rates with such usage. Primary advantage of long lance is speed and warhead in short-range setup.

The IJN and particularly Yamamoto recognised the inherent strength and practicalities of carriers and naval airpower. But it could be argued that some of that insight came from studying the RN. For example the Raid on Taranto in 1940, where 12 swordfish fairies crippled the Regia Marina whilst they were in port. It's argued this was the inspiration for Pearl Harbour...

The Japanese were light years ahead of the RN in carrier ops long before Taranto.
