People who SHOULD have been President.

Honestly, things would have been so much better if Nixon won in 1960.
>>2714757
If Nixon wins in 1960, what happens in Vietnam?

Considering he was the one who pulled us out OTL, I don't think he would send us in at all. Probably lots of aid for SVN.

doesnt need to sabotage peace accords to get elected.
it's your fault america you made me do it

So more "PROXY" war than "proxy WAR"? I dig it. What about civil rights?

All the King's men is one of my favorite books. Robert Pen Warren fucking NAILED american politics. It's amazing how accurate it is, and it's nearly a hundred years old.
>>2714793
Not as progressive as Kennedy, but he was a good enough politician to recognize the changing political situation and roll with it.
Unironically Eugene Debs
>>2714856
My exact thoughts, I'm from NY, so "Rockefeller Republicans" is how we roll at the state level. Federal gets a little more interesting, Peter King(R-Long Island) went a fucking RANT about MS-13 on facebook last week.
>>2714705
This guy was great.
He was such a spit fire in the 90's debates that it still gave the 90's such a comfy feeling.
Carter needed a second term.

This. Perot was onto some really outstanding things back in 1992.
>Balanced budgets
>Electronic town halls and electronic direct democracy to help wither down congress
>Absolutely opposed to gun control
>Clamored about outsourcing in 1992 and vowed to stop it
>Recognized trade deals in negotiation at the time were shit for the USA
>bitched about exorbitant executive compensation
>bitched about companies "legally" evading taxes
>noted that small and mid sized businesses are hardest hit by corporate tax rate and regulation
He was admittedly kinda shit on drug policy- very much a drug warrior.
>merit pay for teachers
>academic standards to participate in sports
>competence tests for teachers, teacher union busting
>shorter election cycles (5 months), free air time
>ban soft money
>a competitively-managed universal plan is the best fit for the USA and ultimately saves money
He's not perfect but Perot saw a lot of issues coming and had plans to tackle them. He could have done quite a bit of good.
>>2714941
He did fuck-all about the hostage situation.
>>2714954
I would 100% have voted for this man
>>2715064
A lot of people DID vote for him. The two-party paradigm fucked him.
Honestly, a Perot presidency would have broken the back of the two-party system and implemented a lot of reforms to avert problems we're encountering today.
Perot talked a lot about new technologies to unlock oil reserves in the US, strengthening the US currency on a basis of something other than the petrodollar, and decried the Gulf War as a mess. He railed against Bush and the policy of friendship with Saddam's Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war.
Perot years in lieu of Clinton years. I really wonder what would have emerged from a 1990's where foreign policy objectives involved buddying up to Russia, weaning the European allies off of NATO, and non-interventionism.
>anything other than Haig in '88
>>2715119
If we had supported Russia through the rough times of the 1990's they would have had a much better chance of establishing a functional democracy, instead of the pseudo-dictatorship/oligarchy/kleptocracy they have now.
>Broken the back of the two party system
It would have kept the democrats on the left and the republicans on the right, rather than the general rightward shift the clinton started
Huey long
>>2715119
>The two-party paradigm fucked him.
Or him dropping out of the race and then redeclaring two months later on a story (which I think has some merit) about the CIA spoiling his daughters wedding by revealing lewd photos killed any chance he had of winning any election.
>>2714820
Florida worst state in the union confirmed.
>>2714804
It was a bipartisan plan to fix it. Up til 65, all theprevious civil right acts were signed/passed under republicans. Not shitting on kennedy but that specific policy would have happened with or without him.
>>2715314
>Made us look like a fucking banana republic
>implying Nixon didn't already do that shit
>tfw he could have saved us from Johnson's shitty presidency
TR should have won in 1912
The Bullmoose party would have ended the two party system that has become a plague on the election system, destroyed congressional lobbying, given us a national healthcare system that actually worked, the US would have had a a stronger army, and WWI would have ended much sooner thanks to US support.
>>2714954
>merit pay for teachers
I don't know why anyone would think this a good thing.
Performance pay is a fucking awful policy in every situation where you can't directly measure results.
School exams are an obviously indirect measurement, and even then only of part of a teacher's job.
Merit pay for teachers would automatically translate to schools teaching how to pass tests rather than actually educate their pupils.
Not to mention that it's bloody fucking unfair, since there's very fucking little a teacher can do to improve his facilities, or the environment his pupils have to live in outside of his classroom, yet these are both extremely important elements in determining a pupil's performance.
>>2715676
>schools teaching how to pass tests rather than actually educate their pupils
But that's been a thing for quite a while.
>>2715682
>But that's been a thing for quite a while.
So is merit pay. Or merit budget anyway.
It kinda proves my point.

Bullshit. We could have gotten Bin Laden within a year of the attacks. All we needed was a few hundred Interpol guys and a some CIA agents with suitcases full of cash to bribe Pakistani officials.
You know, the way the ended up getting him in 2011.

Hmm sounds like he had a lot of similar 'ideas' and came from a certain other person we know who has backed out on all his "MUH 1st 30 days" promises. Yeah, we should have voted for a rich business man who "understands the common folk" way earlier
>>2715778
Mehhhhhhhh it wasn't an obvious
>>2716397
He deserved worse than what he got
His fucking meme plans got shit on by based Jackson so like a small dicked cuck he spent his entire political career to try and get people to hate Jackson (which was impossible because Jackson demonstrably made the common man's life better) by stirring up shit about him being a king when everything he did was for the greater good and he did absolutely nothing wrong. Clay was such a fag holy shit.

>Makes Carter look weak towards Iran and ineffective in solving the Hostage Crisis

Almost as if the Iranians were being stubborn on purpose to make Carter look weak.
really gets those neurons firing.
>>2717073
Jackson was a fucking madman and his shit economic policies led to a depression. Clay was one of the greatest statesmen this country ever produced.

huey long and ross perot would have both been great
>>2717073
Clay wanted the federal government to invest in roads and canals to help facilitate trade and economic growth. Jackson had no understanding of economics and couldn't see the wisdom Clay's "meme policies". I admire Jackson but his economic policies were shit and led to the panic of 1837. Though it wasn't quite a depression >>2717156

Bin Laden isn't the only wealthy Salafist in the Middle East, only the most famous. No matter how many times you pick the fruit, so as the tree remains, more fruit will grow, and eventually you're going to miss one of them. Supporting the Saudis for access to their oil is the single most short sighted move the U.S ever made, and we will continue to pay for it until we stop.

The Business of America is Business. I wish there was too but given the circumstances of our founding it would just never happen.

Are you sure it's your funding and not the >muh communism< meme that remains from the cold war mentality? I think there were actual leftists in the US in the XIXth/early XX century or so.
>>2714705
Perot is objective proof a third party can do it with enough funding and exposure. Shame they shut him down.

Ever since farming ceased to be relevant on the political stage, socialism has remained in the garbage.

>Worth shit
As clearly demonstrated by the "For Sale" sign in front of Guantanamo bay. I'm so sick of "Trump is objectively a failure!" rambling, get back to me at the end of four (or more realistically eight) years, and then we can discuss if he was a failure.
>Vietnam War peace negotiated in 1969
>Great Society expansion
>full employment
>no exit from Bretton-Woods
How has he not been mentioned yet?
>>2714793
He actually expanded rights for Native Americans, but Nixon was so mixed it would be hard to say. He at one point acted like a anti-communist zealot but ended up being the first President to visit the PRC and opened negotiations with the USSR.
