They weren't a hivemind. Jefferson was practically an anarchist at times and Hamilton believed in monarchism. Washington had some decent ideas, but he was a general first and politician second so I'd give yourself some time to read some books on the main fathers rather than skipping to read about our first president.
I still have no idea why they had such restricted views on what considers someone eligible to vote though or how they though those restrictions would work with the 10th amendment.

Better yet, can anyone recommend some good biographies of them?

They were basically America incarnate: loud, know-it-all, obnoxious louts that get violent if they don't get their way, but somehow manage to produce something cool and occasionally beautiful.

I'm an unapologetic Adams-fag myself. I like his taking parts from Jefferson and Hamilton while going his own way. He never owned slaves, had a wonderful relationship with his wife, and was instrumental in getting a lot of the nitty-gritty legal shit worked out. He had plenty of missteps but he was easily one of the most honorable of the bunch.
