The usage of the word turkic is used to denote a linguistically similar people. The language spoken by Subutai is probably mongolian as that was the main language throughout the mongol empire.

Turkic as an ethnicity doesn't make sense as there's so many different ethnic groups.

Its actually from the region of mongolia that holds the main power over all those "turk" empires.

During mongol empire, it was the ruling mongols that lead all those successful campaigns across the world.

During the Gokturk's "First Turk Khaganate" era, the capital was in central mongolia.

Before that it was the Xiongnu empire, whose' capital was once again in inner Mongolia(China).

Not sure what you mean by Mongols copied it. Mongolia is literally the seat of the so called "Turkic" powers.
