Teach me about this man, /his/. Was he an evil greedy capitalist, or innovative generous inventor?
>>
>>270352

>cheaper goods

Ok all the other things I can say are good things, but cheaper goods aren't necessarily a good thing. It gives incentives to produce cheap ass stuff with no regard for waste disposal, enviroment or work safety.
>>
He was a nutsy son of a bitch.

Also, cars wouldn't have sold if the government didn't make so many streets for cars. A clear case of subsidized industry.
>>
>>270352
In Brave New World a few aspects of future society was attributed to him and his invention of the assembly line.
>>
>>270358
When a consumer is purchasing a product, they take into account not only the price but the perceived quality of the product, that's why usually brand name stuff does better than store brand items that are cheaper. By cheaper goods in Ford's case however I think they mean he did more to increase production in such a way that prices for EVERYTHING went lower (similar to what Carnegie did) which allowed for people (even those who earned wages we today would consider inhumane) to live very comfortably.
>>
>>270457
And for that we have forsaken our morals and frugal lifestyle in order to pursue a decadent destructive consumerist path
>>
>>270476
If you want to live a moral life, live a moral life. It is the decision of individuals to live as they please. If you are a truly moral man, why do you care so about others and their chosen lifestyles?
>>
>>270457

>When a consumer is purchasing a product, they take into account not only the price but the perceived quality of the product, that's why usually brand name stuff does better than store brand items that are cheaper.

You are remarkeably naive if you believe that.
>>
>>270476
Oh shut up.

Because of a "decadent destructive consumerist path" the American poor live better than European kings did 300 years ago. In America obesity is more of a problem than starvation.

>>270518

I'm not saying the consumer actually KNOWS the quality of the product, just that nobody buys something that they outright think is bad (or not worth their money, at least)
>>
>>270518
People are willing to pay more for higher perceived quality, or even personal preference. Why would one buy a faster, sometimes less gas efficient car, if a cheaper alternative exist? For the Brand of course.
>>
>>270352
>people literally died for 40 hour work week and weekend rights
>hurr lets thank this one benevolent capitalist

I don't hate Henry Ford, but to attribute him those rights is absurd, rights were won while people liked him treated their workers without the mandatory laws due to labor shortage. Had he lived today he would do none of it, since labour market is overcrowded and people would be glad to hold a job, weekends etc be damned.
>>
>>270586
I have my doubts on that since independent labor unions would still exist. That and the ability for the worker to get a contract with their employer of choice. Sooner or later the employer would have to bend to the will of a determined group of workers, especially in the case of protest.

>Teach me about this man, /his/
>but only teach me if it fits my narrow point of view, otherwise I'll discard it immediately

why don't you fuck off you assclown
>>
>>270596
Why are leftists so prone to cussing?
>>
>>270592
depends on how good labor can organize itself, thats why you see walmart fly in union brakers whenever there is a talk about union, thats why you have videos like this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD2Nt4LS5yg

maybe eventualyl they will bow, but wallmart rather have it later than sooner.

regardless what henry ford did was just a reaction to market forces, If you want better workers you will grant them better conditions simple as that. Had market was flooded with auto workers we would not have to do anyshit.

Surely there are beneficent masters/slave owners/employe's but OP's pic portray him as if he did good for no reason.

fuck conservatives though, if you are going to hate on union you deserve to be worked to death.
>>
>>270600
coming from /pol/, the bastion of politeness and of good speech.
>>
>>270619
I'm not from /pol/.
>>
>>270501
What's a moral man and what's moral to you?
>>
>>270352
False dichotomy. Read Veblen
>>
>>270625
then you belong there, the guy is right
>but only teach me if it fits my narrow point of view, otherwise I'll discard it immediately

if you want people to call you out on your bullshit stay here, If you want people to circlejerk and agree with you go to /pol/. This place is not your comfort zone
>>
>>270632
First, I'm not the OP.

Second, OP asked a question which was answered with "fuck off you assclown" while other posters had no issue debating politely.

If you think that's a proper reply maybe it's you who belongs on /pol/ after all.
>>
>>270605
Just because market forces put forth the conditions for him to do that doesn't mean he was just some ruthless profit seeker. He could have worked his workers to death under the profitable conditions anyways and taken a bigger cut, but he did not.

However, I'm a Michigander. Unions were certainly a force for good in the past, but they're fucking scum now. Especially in Detroit (Although you can chalk that up to "lol niggers"). The teacher's union likewise is made up of the some of the worst fucking dregs in the state. Don't assume that just because someone is advocating "workers rights" that they're making a sound economic decision ("We DEMAND $50/hr for working the cashier at Wendy's!") or are at all interested in the working conditions of laborers. The Wally World Propaganda video you posted is hilarious, but it is right about one thing: Many Unions (Especially in Michigan) are interested in profit, not workers. This of course depends on the union (The Teacher's Union and UAW are both forces for nothing but ill in this state).
>>
>>270664
>Although you can chalk that up to "lol niggers"
Actually those who say everything bad in Detroit can be attributed to niggers, need to ask themselves why is there only niggers in Detroit in the first place.
>>
He was an innovative greedy inventor
>>
>>270664
everyone works for their own interest, unions and ford included. maybe he was benevolent, maybe he would give benefits even if there was no competition for labour who knows. Of course you are also right in unions being corrupt

but If I'm a worker I would demand less hours for more wage, If I'm a boss I would demand more hours for less wage, its just my own self interest. Nothing good or bad about it.
>>
>>270352
>not unions and liberals
lolwut? Unions have done more for workers than any other entity in history. The fuck does it have to do with MUH LIBERALS
>>
>>270625
Then why would you automatically assume he is a leftist?
>>
>>270746
Because they're the only people getting worked up over Ford?

Also I didn't know /pol/ was the only place on Earth where someone could call you a leftist.
>>
the history of trade unions in the US is unlike any other country, some of them literally went to war and tried seizing control of the factory and had ties to the mafia

In my country, the UK, unions did end up becoming corrupt but before they were legalised. Your boss could literallly take your kids off of you if he wanted to. So unions are generally viewed as a good thing

Whilst in America they're widely hated even by liberals
>>
>>270352
Ford also implemented strict social controls for his workers to follow or he'd fire them. Working for Ford for years meant that your life would be completely dictated by him.
>>
Ford is what happens when you get rich, then super rich, and then you realize that everyone else must lose is a bad moral.
>>
>>270352
Ford was a good baron among many horrible ones. To say he invented these ideas and made them mandatum is retarded.
>>
>>270518
It was a thing back then, because a lot of modern preservation techniques has not been pionered.
When everything is weird wathered out mush, Heinz where amazing. And thats how it became a brand name, since most corporations where too small to do large multi state markeding pushes.

>>270766
>the history of trade unions in the US is unlike any other country
Good joke, but thats one of the least true statements you could make.
Literal civil wars between union, factory owner, police and thugs where not uncommon at all in all parts of the world.
Because it was about so much money, work conditions, and it was a legal grey area.
>>
>>270352
Both.

He was one of the grand architects of modern society - either intentionally or not. So depending on how you view things - he's to be despised or loved.

However, the cash flows between his endeavors and certain people or projects like JP Morgan and counter-socialist/unionist campaigns really raise some questions.

I could go on on this if someone is interested.
