Why didn't the monarchs freak out about the english civil war when they killed their king, but flipped out when the french did it

Also, Switzerland is likely the worlds most successful buffer state. Faithfully keeps the big European powers from going at each others throats.

england was also on the periphery of europe while france was the continent's superpower at the time.

lastly, mainland europe was busy fighting the 30 years war, a war much more consequential and important than the english civil war was to them. even after the 30 years war, france and spain still kept fighting each other and couldn't be bothered with england.

Well, the truth is that they didn't flip out. If one looks at how the things went, it was never an inmediate alliance of monarchies against the repulic.

Most of them were more like "oh let France go to shit with their internal mess and then we'll enter and divide it among us like we did with Poland". International war started when France made a preemtive attack (if you're to side with the Girondins) on Austrian Holland (ie Belgium).

Yes, sure, the Habsurgs were a bit pissed that the husband of one of theirs was killed, but Prussia, Austria and Russia were busy dealing with Poland and they didn't react fast.

So even if >>2701533 is correct, I think one shouldn't be so fast as saying that the whole Europe went on arms because a monarch was deposed. Things evolved much and one cannot just look at the Congerss of Vienna map and think that everything from 1789 to 1815 was some Monarchy vs Republic showdown.

Because the powers that be in Europe weren't really all that concerned with a rival monarchy being threatened. With the French Revolutionary Wars, it started more as an excuse to go after France, who was one of the biggest powers in the world at the time. And if you really look at it, you'll find that the powers most determined to fight Republican France - Britain and Austria - were ones whos interests directly conflicted with France. Meanwhile, powers that didn't have as many conflicting interests mostly stayed out. Even Bourbon Spain, who had a member of their dynasty overthrown and killed, wasn't all that enthusiastic about fighting France.
