>/his/ laments the epic paganist Julian as the man that could have revitalized Rome
>Conveniently omits Majoran, a Christian emperor, which was in a position to restore the status of Rome shortly before its historical fall and failed by a hair's breadth

What are some examples of /his/ deliberately being selective about their favorite historical figures?
>>
>>2699464
Majorian gets a mention on /his/ too. Probably not as much as Julian but more then Eugenius who was Christian but wasn't antagonistic towards old polytheism.
>>
>>2699464
Its not his, its autistic neo pagans who refuse to accept Christianity saved rome
>>
>>2699464

/his/' problem is blaming the fall of rome on christianity when there are a plethora of other reasons that make far more sense

it's a theory that was posited and refuted by augustine of hippo and then posited by edward gibbon and refuted by modern historians

retard shit typical of this board
>>
>>2699556
>Christianity saved rome
>Rome gets sacked and destroyed
This is what Jesus died for? No wonder modern society is so nihilistic.
>>
>>2699556
>saved Europe

Fixed that for you. Rome for fucked but Christianity ultimately kept Europe together for a thousand years.
>>
>>2699583
No it didn't.

>b-b-but Charles Martel...
Christianity had nothing to do with Charles Martel realizing a foreign power was encroaching on Europe via Iberia and would be knocking on his door soon.

>b-b-but Europeans were unified around...
Our ancestors murdered each other for thousands of years over petty politics. They were then converted, and murdered each other for two thousand years over petty politics. Christianity just gave them another type of reason to go to war. Do you seriously think the Wars of Religion were "Europe Unified"? Christianity sure as shit didn't unify Byzantium in the east given how the Byzantine emperors and administration were constantly at war with Christian powers.

Groups that share a similar culture and geographic location have ALWAYS unified against an external threat, ESPECIALLY one that is an existential threat. See: Greece and Persia. No one involved was Christian. The Greeks were fucking polytheists who couldn't even agree on where Hercules did what.

You don't seem to get what people find interesting about Julian. Majorian would have kept Rome going as a rump state as it was. He'd be remembered exactly as he is now: One of the last few emperors before the final blow was struck. Whether he managed to extend Rome's lifetime by 10 more years or not is irrelevant.

People like Julian because he was interesting and shook things up. Boohoo, he fired a bunch of bureaucrats and wore a beard and talked to peasants, the man pretty much concocted a new religion by himself and died in a classic act of Roman stupidity.

He's far more interesting than "Generic Christian Emperor #36".
>>
>>2699464
>Galilean
>Revitalize Rome
Keeping a sinking ship afloat for another decade or two is not particularly notable.

Julian on the other hand could very have restored the Empire.
If only he had been successful in cutting out the cancer that had infected it.
>>
>>2699656
Or at the very least it would have been more fun to read about.

The Christian Emperors are boring and uninteresting. The Pagan ones are fun (even if they're retards half the time).
>>
>>2699611
Christianity kept Europe together after Rome's fall by keeping in place institutions that allowed a relatively simple transition from the fall of the empire to the middle ages.

Most of the various tribes that settled into the fresh corpse of the Western empire from the Goths to the Franks were also Christians, creating a unified Christian identity throughout most of Europe.

Calm down, fag. No need to spurg out over historical discussion.
>>
>>2699674
Are you seriously saying pagan Rome wouldn't have been able to keep basic institutions set up?

Christian delusion is astounding. Next you will tell me Arabs weren't able to inherit/incorporate Persian institutions and governance because the difference of religion.
>>
>>2699785
I'm not Christian, fool.

This has nothing to do with one religion being greater than another. Any religion could've served the same purpose. But as it stands, Christianity is what accomplished it the task.

Rome, pagan or christian, was going to collapse under the weight of its in-fighting and corruption. Christianity served a valuable purpose after that collapse
>>
>>2699674

No, Christianity kept Europe dumb and backwards for 1,000 years after the fall of Rome and only loosened its deadening grip after two centuries of unbelievably bloody warfare all but killed the vile creed and put the state back in charge, which it hadn't been since Constantine handed over supreme authority to a bunch of dress-wearing pedophiles, aka the Church.
>>

>No, Christianity kept Europe dumb and backwards for 1,000 years
You don't believe in the Dark Ages, right Anon?
>>
But /his/ really doesn't lament Julian all that much. There are some posters that lament him not managing to saving Roman polytheism, and that's about it. Threads about him tend to go the same way any other thread about paganism tends to go: a handful of posters that lament the decline of European polytheism, and shitposting deus vult LARPers covering everything in shit, like they always do.
>>
>>2699611
You have a very childish view of Roman history
>>
>>2699464
Hey /his/ loves Majorian. Rightfully so i've seen many posts on here praising him.
