Who was the best president?
And why was it George Washington?
>implying pic related is not the best president ever

Because he was a Mason. But Jackson and Jefferson were better.
>>269774
>Jackson

Not really.
>Jefferson
One of the worst 2bh.

You get lib types who hate him because of the Mexican-American War (which WAS a deeply divisive war even at the time) but he basically fulfilled Manifest Destiny. I think as an EFFECTIVE president Polk is one of the best though you can argue the morality and everything else of expansion.
Personally I like Arthur. Really underrated president.

Yeah, he destroyed the economy so badly it took decades to recover so he could funnel money out west.
Just like Jefferson, he's a retard whose economic policies among other things greatly damaged the country in the long run.
>>269725
he has the best passive in Civ V

Literally what the fuck are you talking about. He has what is widely considered one of the worst passives in civ 5
>>269725
Nigga fucking hated being the president.
>>272964
You are a fool, Jackson was the only President in the history of our Nation to pay off the national debt. The panic of 1837 was caused by bankers and land speculators - the exact people Jackson was attempting to take power away from.

He bought the majority of America for less than my grandpa spent on his yacht.
He was based beyond measure.

Any president could have done that Napoleon just needed money
I don't understand why he didn't just crown himself Emperor of America?
I've always liked Calvin Coolidge.

"I did not fight George III to become George I"
>>275235
He couldn't. The United States power, the moment it broke away from Britain, was immediately divided among over 20 wealthy aristocrats seeking power. George washington before his time as general was a businessman/landowner just like the rest of the founding fathers. Some sort of pseudo democratic aristocrats wet dream was inevitable.
That's the edgy answer. They really just knew they were basking in glory and wanted to do something ballsy/revolutionary.
>>269725
Because he initially didn't want the job.
>he understood that the president was just an administrator.
he didn't run for reelection after the second term
>>274653
Washington and a lot of other founders were Deist. They only ever went to church for appearance's sake.
>>274592
>the only President in the history of our Nation to pay off the national debt
This was more of a political ploy than sound policy. The government was making more money than they knew what to do with from Tariffs. Government revenues vastly outpaced expenses, the difference between Jackson and his predecessors was that Presidents like Quincy Adams wanted to invest that money in a series of internal improvements whereas Jackson wanted to DIVEST that money overseas to British creditors.
>The panic of 1837 was caused by bankers and land speculators
Jackson's "Specie Exchange" which declared US land would only be sold for gold and silver, not bank notes, destroyed the public faith in promissory notes and drained specie out of the American economy straight into the banks of England. That wasn't the only cause of the Panic. There was also a crop failure in England which caused British banks to recall debt from specie short American debtors leading to a run on hundreds of American banks, foreclosures on land, and a general downswing in economic activity.

Because he hated the job made him so good at it
He didn't covet the position so he didn't abuse it
He and Jimmy Carter are the only presidents that didn't expand their presidential power
That makes them based
Jimmy is easily the most underrated

Jimmy was attacked by a rabbit, though.
