Nazi's would have collapsed once they realized they can't kill away their problems. The Soviet Union wanted to become communist but it was kind of rag tag and never worked out.

The Nazis were similar to the Delian League, they tried to unite the German speaking peoples of Central Europe to fight and defend themselves against the aggressive Communists who were actively trying to invade the rest of Europe.

The Soviets intended to invade and conquer all of Europe and West Asia, killing the majority of the peoples and rendering the conquered states to inhuman subjugation.

Nazis were super into the idea of the Deutsche Volk (German race), and basically to understand their fixation on that it's sort of how a Green-Eco type talks about the "Environment." It exists in a sense, and it's great to have around, but there are obvious issues with them sometimes. Other things the Nazis wanted, which are never clear really, include continental Hegemony of some sort, the defeat of Bolshevism (USSR), Autarky with regards to their own commerce, and German/Nordic dominance.

One of the ways they tried to achieve this was through killing massive amounts of Jews, who were seen (along with Bolsheviks) as a fifth column in any nation ready to stab them in the back. Not pleasant.

Soviets are a little bit more complicated. Early on they were very much a group of idealogues and what not, and were basically that way even when Stalin took control. When Stalin was in control there is no doubt that he believed in almost every part of Socialism (even the mass central economic planning half abandoned by Lenin.) There was a minor and half-hearted power struggle between Stalin and Trotsky, and soon enough a rift in philosphy began to develop between them (though it's kind of unclear to me) where one has Trotskyism which emphasizes a vast revolution abroad, and Stalinism which is a bit more about having a heroic leader (Stalin) and communism in your country alone. Stalin was more Nationalist to Trotsky's universalism, it's unclear if Trotsky would have actually done any of those "Trostkyist" things, but if he had, things would have been worse than Stalin most likely.

After WW2, Stalin and the Soviet Union cared a lot less about Communism and a bit more about regular power politics on a geopolitical scale.
