Afrocentrism is a reactionary movement intended to counter both perceived and real eurocentrism. While it's got hints of justification - there are plenty of examples of African history that have been incorrectly examined, downplayed, or even covered up entirely (looking at you, Rhodesia) as late as the past half-century - like many reactionary movements, it takes things too far.

At its best, it's a revisionist movement for areas of history that really do need a second look. At it's worst, it's quasi-nationalistic appropriation of various histories in the same way plenty of cultures have done over history.

It is minimizing and being apologists to their radical views by saying that they are just the analogous to every nationalist group here in the US, which it simply isn't true when it comes to how prevalent it is in their culture and how widespread the antipathy it is to it. No other race could avoid media attention and public backlash and counter-demonstrations like blacks have with the Black Hebrew Israelites with their street demonstrations.

Because of their exceptional and extreme case, and the fact that liberals don't want to confront their presence just so they don't offend the radical ones, it is just to constantly bring them up and mock them so the whole world can shift their attention and see how retarded they are.
