First of all, the Army is literally where the washouts in the Naval service go.

Secondly, British generals have a terrible habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory by being pompous asses.

Moreover, the british army brass COULD NEVER be held responsible for their own shortcomings. It was always the fault of those damn colonial troops or someone else.

The British army wasn't all THAT good in the 20th century.

I think pound for pound they were up there in WW1 and WW2, but were shown up on this basis by their own colonial troops (Canadians, Australians, gurkhas).

Certain German units were better as well, and the best army as a whole for the century was undoubtedly the Imperial German army of 1914.

Into the modern era. The Falklands was an impressive rout of a pretty decent military on the other side of the world which imo shows the continued British ability to play a large role in foreign lands. Their power is diminished from 1914 but no country except the US could've done what they did. They doesnt rank them the "best" though.

What the British are unstoppable at is actually winning in the end, which is what matters.

The Japanese were more impressive then the British, the opening of the Pacific was more skillful and relevant than British participation in the rest of the war

I did, nothing supports your assertion.

The 20th century British military was very good in some areas but often suffered from serious gaps in its capabilities as a result of being unprepared, pursuing a dead-end doctrine, or some other screw up.

WW1:
>not enough machine guns, not enough men in the army, bloated navy.

WW2:
>underfed military budget, shitty tank design, overextension, outdated weapons.

Probably more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

This still remains true to this day: just look at all the troubles with the L85 in the 90's, the Challenger 2 MBT upgrades, the new destroyers and aircraft carriers, and the F-35.
