ALL OF YOUR TASTES ARE WRONG! Most of the flags mentioned are shit.

Some basic rules for a good flag are.
Keep it simple.
Don't use too many colours.
Use meaningful symbolism.
No writing or seals.

Following those rules the majority of these flags suck.

A lot of people seem to forget that if a flag is up in the wind flying about, you usually cannot distinguish what the little symbol in the center is.

In 1579 Willem van Oranje (William I Prince of Orange) used a powerful banner, (arguably the first to use the tricolor flag) to unite its people in the rebellion against the Spanish.
A flag can have a lot of power and intimate your enemies. Some of that power is lost if the enemy first has to find a telescope or a binocular to decipher what the little squabble in the center is.
A great example of this is the Nazi flag or a black pirates flag.


Anyhow for my personal preference following the rules above, i would say that one of the best flags is that of the Dutch province and state of Friesland. (Imagine limit reached.)
With the Nazi flag being a close second contender.

The imagine limit was reached using mostly shitty flags. Learn your fucking vexillology.
