Christianity and Islam both hail from arab peninsula.

Christianity takes in roman arts, architecture, dressing, values and languages.
Islam takes in persian bureaucracy, architecture, fashions and arts.

Is current Christianity vs. Islam a continuation of Rome vs. Persia ?

Catholics aren't Christian
>>
1) Christianity does not hail from the Arabian Peninsula.
2) Islam "borrowed" a lot from the Greco-Byzantine tradition, not just the Persian one.

Islam was very much influenced by the Greco-Roman world. The second Muslim dynasty was based inside a former Roman province.

Early Islam was influenced by Greco-Roman tradition more than anything, Its only after Abbasid resurgence that Persian influence became more apparent

The change really started after they relocate their capital from Damascus, which at the time was heavily Byzantine/Greco-Roman in culture, to Baghdad, which was heavily Persian influenced

Pic related, the earliest surviving mosque outside Arabian peninsula

You realize that Islamic philosophy was all about the Greeks right
>>
>>2682930
I don't have it on me, but there's a passage of Ibn Khaldun that basically says 'the Greeks, Persians, Copts, Babylonians and other ancient civilizations all had their own great philosophers and scholars, but only the Greek works survived'. An exaggeration, but it really shows how much medieval Muslims adored Greek philosophy. Islamic architecture west of Iraq was also basically just a continuation of earlier Greco-Roman styles, which is obvious in early stuff like the Dome of the Rock or Damascus Rock but is equally true of later structures like those of al-Andalus, the Mamluks or the Ottomans.

People are way too blinded by the anachronistic east-west distinction, largely because of the Renaissance. Western Christendom was originally just the inheritor of the Latin Roman world mixed with Germanic influences, and only with the 12th and 15th century renaissances did they adopt the Greek stuff which the Muslims and Byzantines had been familiar with for centuries.

I thought the proto-hebrews were a mix of amorites, arameans and chaldeans?

Neither, they were probably a branch of Canaanite highland pastoralists who developed a seperate identity to the urbanised Canaanite farmers (the Canaanites of the Bible) of the lowlands, and replaced the latter after the sea people's destroyed the Canaanite cities. The Sea Peoples who remained in the Levant became the Philistines.

It goes back further, the east-west distinction was already being made by the ancient greeks. Largely as a result of the greco-persian war. It's around that time that "barbaros" stopped meaning somebody you don't understand the language of, and gained the connotation of someone who's inferior to you. Plus I imagine the early rashidun and umayad attempts at expansion into europe (with spain captured and the numerous raids on sicily and italian cities) prior to the crusades did not help.

We've both grown to associate an "otherness" with the other. And even if we're aware about it, it's extremely hard to resist. Pretty much everyone in our cultural past and political present reinforces that notion.

I thought the abbasid were massive greekaboos. Didn't the translation movement take off massively during their stewardship of the caliphate?
>>
>>2683577
Yeah. The Umayyads were Romaboos, the Abbasids were Classical Greekaboos, and the Persian fixation only really started with the Seljuk and subsequent Turko-Persian dynasties.

The Abbasids employs and adopt so many Persian influence from court tradition, governmental model, art, architecture, music, etc. that they're essentially Persianised, similar to how the Manchus in China adopt and integrated into the people they conquer
The whole culture that we typically think as 'Middle east / Arab / Islamic' aesthetic was literally started by them
Pic example Baghdad was planned as perfectly circular city like the Sassanid Persian model
