iirc the idea behind this was that a minefields purpose is to slow down an attack by forcing the attackers to clear the mines, in which case mine clearers would take losses from MGs and mortars.

Soviets instead decided 'fuck that lmao' and push through the minefield anyway (sometimes after hitting it with artillery to detonate some of the mines) to say fuck you to the germans and not get slowed down since they'd take losses anyway

He got a medal for each million russians he killed.
