Why didn't Alexander just kill him?
>>
>>2668030
He didn't have the balls
>>
>>2668030
Whats the use killing a delusional hobo
>>
>>2668030

B/c he had bantz
>>
This encounter never happened. It's just legend.
>>
>>2668063
Yeah, this is the most realistic answer.

He said "if I wasn't Alexander I would want to be Diogenes" or something so he obviously respected him.
>>
>>2668030

Not sure I understand the question.
Why would he kill him?
>>
Alexander was a man of great virtue, receptivity and empathy, and understood that one ought to not stand in another's sunlight that day.
>>
>>2668030
he valued any wise man
>>
Because he was used to having his ass kissed all the fucking time and could see the humour of some hobo telling him to fuck off made
>>
That would be murder anon.
>>
>>2668030
He wasn't some insecure loser who has to prove himself at every turn.
>>
>>2668030
Αλεξ was ok, + u cannot kill what is already dead!
>>
>>2668160
are you sure about that?
>>
>>2668030
He understood the absurdity of the situation. At least he didn't disturb his circles like some other dweeb did to that other poor guy.

>>2668063
Or that. That's the problem with most of ancient history.
>>
Is Diogenes /ourguy/?
>>
Because after Philip achieved hegemon over most of Greece, he formed the Council of Corinth to prevent war and inter-state disputes between the city-states as a "bitch be cool" gesture. Even though the member-states probably didn't have any actual legal power if Philip or Alexander started murdering whatever citizens they wanted of the city-states, it still would've caused outrage that was bad PR. That's why Alexander and Philop didn't put a garrison in Athens--the prime communicative hub of all Greece--but did with Thebes. And when Thebes revolted and Athens revolted, he razed and punished Thebes but not Athens.

Plus, although he did lose control of his emotions when he was drunk or after some battles, he still was pragmatic that even if that story is true and IF he did get offended (which he didn't according to the story, but was amazed by Diogenes apathy) he probably would withhold it and not give a shit. Demosthenes practically called his dad and family niggers and started the aforementioned revolt against him, and he responded to just asking for him to get tried and sentence for that, which Athens didn't like and requested to be the ones to carry out the trial instead, which he granted, and they ended up just ostracizing from politics, and Alexander, who wanted him to be executed, just ended up not carrying.
>>
>>2668082

Why not? Alex had killed hundreds, if not thousands of people up to this point. Why would he shy away from just one more?
>>
>>2668660

why not =/= why
>>
Because alexander was in the wrong of a civilised man?
>>
R E S P E C T
>>
>>2668030
because he saw that he would never be as free like this man and he respected it
>>
>>2668030
>Diogenes had bantz with Plato
>Aristotle had bantz with Plato
>Alex was mentored by Aristotle
That's kind of a connection or something man idk.
>>
after Alexander sacked some city or other one of his soldiers tried to rape a woman

instead she ended up killing him and refused to back down or apologise at all when she was dragged in front of Alexander

he respected her fearlessness and so let her go, so he seems to have admired anyone that stood up to him
>>
>>2668189
Yes
Always has been.
>>
>>2668160
This.
>>
>>2668185
Isn't this encounter proof of it? Unless you have another explanation
