What is a good book about the history of socialism/communism prior to Marx? It seems odd to me that socialists/communists existed before him since they use him for support now.

Meh I bet lazy cavemen were hating on the tribe with all the good food resources way back in antiquity.
"Og Tribe Oppressed Nog Tribe" - Pavek Flatface
And
"Do They Need All The Berries They Picked?" - Garut Lightfingers

Socialism leads to communism but they're different
Socialism is really just high taxation allowing frequent government intervention for the better
Whilst communism is Marxism-Leninism evolved, and mandates complete redistribution of wealth. Bolsheviks and Mensheviks differ along whether society needs a bourgeois democracy before reaching the final stage of human evolution, communism

Hehe have you even once redistributed any of your wealth to a total stranger?
You really should go do that before demanding that I do you know.
Start with the Utopians like Saint-Simon if you want to learn about socialism for industrial societies. It'll dispel the /pol/ narrative that socialism is a Jewish plot.
Don't forget to read about the history of trade unions.
