are you pro or anti Vietnam war and why
pro in theory, not execution.
Meh it was just a proxy war between the US and RUS/China.
Not very fair for the Vietnamese involved.
>>2663502
why not in execution
In hindsight, the U.S. should have let all Asia become communist. It would mean less competition.
>>2663516
but if they were to have let all of Asia fall to communism the us and capitalism would have looked week to the European country's
>>2663513
but we did still loose to a bunch of rice farmers
So, let's say Politics/UN didn't have any say in what the US did in Vietname
Could the US have pushed back the NVA/VC?
I remember hearing something that, if a single plane were to strike Hanoi, it practically could have started WW3
>>2663522
Should have let them become communist too.
I think one reason why the U.S. was so keen on containing communism was because they were afraid it would actually work. If they knew communism didn't work, they could have just let their enemies adopt it and ruin themselves.
>do you support the mass murdering of people because you suspect an opposing ideology might appease to them
"Hey there Chen, heard you might like that Vladich way of life - sorry but you got to go"
>>2663495
pro
because the north vietnamese were meanies and bullied the heck out of the south vietnamese
Anti.
Because we didn't win.
>>2663592
This, hindsight is 20/20. They at the time weren't entirely sure if Communism would work. Today we know it doesn't, so anyone who wants to adopt it, are merely ruining themselves.
Pro because it makes it hilariously easy to anger jingoistic/militaristic/patriotic yanks
>>2663592
Define "work" though. USSR managed to put people in space and create nuclear weapons, and lasted for almost 100 years.
>>2663495
It led to the making of Apocalypse Now, so it can't have been all that bad.
>>2663516
That's not how the free market works you moron, bigger market is ALWAYS better.
>>2664478
And what about the living standard?
An easy comparison would be Austria and Czech rep. They were almost the same in GDP per capita back in the day. Compare the 1990 numbers.
>>2664456
This also explains why every time communism has been tried it's been Leninism, because at the time, Leninism seemed to actually be working.
>>2664792
The living standard was shit compared to the West obviously, but like I said, it depends on what how you define "working".
Human societies can function even though they are poor as fuck and unstable.
>>2663592
>I think one reason why the U.S. was so keen on containing communism was because they were afraid it would actually work. If they knew communism didn't work, they could have just let their enemies adopt it and ruin themselves.
Holy fuck are you ignorant. Do you really think communists just wanted to leave the USA alone? Containment was a national security issue for the USA.
>>2663542
Linbacker II blew the shit out of places inside Hanoi
>>2663542
the US could have easily destroyed Vietnam if they didn't hold back
the problem was that they were mostly trying to protect South Vietnam instead of conquering the North
Pro cuz the Viets BTFO'd America
>>2663495
it was some bulllll shit fuck it and fuck imperialism
>>2663514
because it was a blatantly failing situation that was prolonged due to politicians trying to save face.

Not saying you're wrong but the Soviet–Afghan War showed that fighting without restraints didn't automatically guarantee victory, and that a super power attempt to prop up an unpopular regime could also be defeated without civil unrest back home.
