>easier to make than a longsword or broadsword
>much less metal used
>small, handy and quick
>not as bulky (read: long) as a spear
>some applications as a tool
>round blade delivers the full power even at a glancing blow
lindy did a video on this.

It was not superior to either weapon, it just filled a different niche.
>>
>>2651352
In what context? In general, though, it's good for getting through thick armour without getting stuck as easily as a pointed weapon.
>>
You can put more weight into your swing
>>
>>2651352
It wasn't superior, but it was more practical since it was easier to make
>>
>>2651352
Required less metal than a sword. Dont think it was superior to a spear beyond wood cutting though.

You can't cut down trees with a fighting axe, they're way too thin and light.

It was a readily available implement that everyone had on hand and would kill people.

It wasn't as useful as the spear, or as prestigious as the sword.
>>
>>2651352
It wasn't superior at all. It was just easier and cheaper to make

Not even true.

With a shield, the axe beats the sword because it hits much harder and because you can hook a sword or shield with the lip of the axe.

How exactly is an Axe easier to make than a Spear?

Early axes were used as tools and capable of felling trees. They were easy to create which likely made them more popular as weapons. With the shift to fighting specialized axes I imagine their popularity just stuck even if they were now more difficult to make.
Plus battle axes look cool.

Where would you get a straight stick 3m long? Spears that are held are quite hard to make
Axes meanwhile were invented in 15030BC because it is a short stick and a rock

What even is a Dane Axe
>>

Still very thin, relying more on leverage than weight in the axe head. You need a much thicker, heavier blade to chop down a tree than you need to cut down a man. According to wikipedia,
>Most axes, both in period illustrations and extant artifact, that fall under the description of Danish axe, possess type L or type M heads according to the Petersen axe typology.[1] Both types consist of a wide, thin blade, with pronounced "horns" at both the toe and heel of the bit. Cutting surfaces vary, but is generally between 20 cm and 30 cm (8 and 12 inches). Type L blades tend to be smaller, with the toe of the bit swept forward for superior shearing capability. Later type M blades are typically larger overall, with a more symmetrical toe and heel.
>The blade itself was reasonably light and forged very thin, making it superb for cutting. The fatness of the body on top the edge is as thin as 2 mm. Many of these axes were constructed with a reinforced bit, typically of a higher carbon steel to facilitate a harder, sharper edge. Average weight of an axe this size is between 1 kg and 2 kg (2 and 4 pounds). Proportionally, the long axe has more in common with a modern meat cleaver than a wood axe. This complex construction results in a lively and quick weapon with devastating cutting ability.

Basically if you were strong enough to wield one you would dominate on the battle field. Axes would chop through armor like butter.

I doubt that axe is much good for any proper combat use

In runescape, that double-edged axe did the most damage in terms of its speed and strength compared to other weapons.
