RIP Aral Sea

idk why the Kazakhstanis or the Uzbekistanis did nothing to stop it's shrinking
Why do commies/leftists hate the environment so much? If only everything were privately owned thus remedying the problem of the tragedy of the commons.
>>2647836
third world people are never good at this
>>2647869
This happened in the nineties, the soviets weren't around to fix the mess they caused, they might have if they were around at the time.
>>2647836
Because they value agricultural productivity over fishing. Honestly, it's no difference from any other irrigation project. The only reason it's an issue is because the Commies started it, and hence it gives /pol/tards another reason to lambaste the Union.

>Being this defensive
>Being a Communist
>this triggers the /leftypol/

The northern part of the "sea" is now recovering actually.

Are you serious?
>>2647926
I doubt there are environmental disasters that can parallel this tragedy. Maybe Tchernobyl is a contender.
Communists more or less destroyed it.
Nothing to do now.

Chernobyl? Ie, move a few towns out of the way and let the native fauna regenerate? That is your benchmark of an environmental disaster?
What about the dust bowl? The death of the great barrier reef? The great plastic sea?
>>2647926
You realize at this point /pol/ is probably sympathetic towards the USSR considering it to be a manifestation of conservative Russianism mixed with old fashioned leftism, right?
Quite possibly one of the greatest human driven environmental calamities ever known.
>muh soviet wheat production!
>>2647869
Bullshit, look at the capitalistic destruction of Lake Eerie and the Brazilian Rainforest
>>2647869
nice meme
>>2648316
nah, /pol/ types generally think every single Bolshevik was a evil genocidal Jew
>>2647836
The Kazaks built a dam to save the northern part. The Uzbeks love their cotton industry too much, and also have taken the opportunity to explore the former lakebed for oil & natural gas.
tl;dr - Kazakhstan > Uzbekistan
