Chiang Kai-Shek pissed off his American advisors while leftist Americans persuaded their government that the Communists would be better allies than the Nationalists. Also most of the elite Nationalist fighting force was destroyed by the Japanese while the Communists did very little other than occasionally raiding Japanese supply lines.

A couple things.

>America focused most of the war effort on Germany, not Japan
>The Japanese military mostly weakened the nationalists, not the communists
>Soviets ignored Japan for 99% of the war
>After the Soviets entered the war and kicked Japan out of Manchuria, they gave Manchuria to the communists
>Truman didn't seem to understand what the hell was going on in East Asia between 1946-1949, thus he didn't really help Chiang Kai Shek

So the ROC got driven out and got crammed into a tiny island by the PRC. What makes me confused is that if the ROC isn't officially dead, it's still the actual China and that the PRC hasn't accomplished the first and foremost goal it set out to do, so technically it's not the real China. Right?
