Philosophically speaking, what is the purpose of depression?
>>
There's no purpose, it develops when you don't get enough stimulation
>>
Why does it need a purpose for it to exist?

Everything happens for a reason, anon
>>2620987
What kind of stimulation?
>>
>>2620978

The suffering stimulates the organism to change the conditions that gave rise to the depression?
>>
>>2620997
>Everything happens for a reason, anon
And perhaps that reason is simply that they happen to exist.
>>
>>2620997
>Everything happens for a reason, anon
yeah and in this case philosophically speaking that reason is that there is no reason

How does sitting around checking your sweet trips change those conditions?

show your reasoning

Well maybe it's like physical pain. You want to stop feeling it asap so you do something about it. Does mental pain work the same?
>>
>>2621009
I'd be glad to, right after you show your reasoning that "everything happens for a reason"

It's actually a defect.
It's a combination
A. apathy(shut down mind)response meant to protect your psyche when bad shit like your dad killing your mom in front of you happens.
B. The ad feeling you get from being unuseful, that's meant to spur younto being useful.
Either of these apart is good for you, when they get entangled it's bad.

It kicks in after breeding age therefore was never bred out

Biological mechanism to deter social dissonance.

Most mammals have been known to cause harm to themselves either by starving, mutilating their own body, or doing lethal stunts (suicide). When an animal gets removed from its mother or family, or its home, it can get depressed. Being removed from socialization creates depression, because it's like your being ostracized from society.

Of course, there's the genetic factor; some people are just more genetically prone to depression. And in people who are homosexual or transgender, their rates of depression can be 10 times the average amount; but along with this, several other mental illnesses are also higher; the correlation would prove that social stigma can lead to other disorders besides depression (Schizophrenia, multiple personalities, psychosis, etc), and would increase their prevalence among individuals who were already prone to such mental illnesses.

The reason that modern society sees so many cases of depression, is that we're leading lives that replace the need for social cues. The clinically depressed go through several techniques to "cure" themselves, either with medication or religion. Medication helps, because it balances out the chemicals in the brain responsible for depression; religion helps, because it gives the religious adherent a god to validate their life. The more validation someone has, the less depressed they feel. Politics and capitalism has outlawed socialization; we're forced where to live, who to talk to, etc. Social justice warriors are addicted to politics and capitalism, and that's the reason they perpetuate their mental views; their self-deprecation is addictive because the virtue signaling and body positivity acts as credible forms of social validation. They are ever-intent on changing the meanings of words, because each previous word loses its validation powers.

>Causality
Okay, so this just reaffirms my point that things happen because they happen.

>What is the purpose of depression
A deficiency in seratonin and dopamine re-uptake in the brain
>What is the purpose of neurotransmitter malfunctions
Issues with maintaining a healthy brain chemistry
>Well what causes issues with maintaining a healthy brain chemistry?
A number of widely varying factors from genetic, to tissue damage to environmental influences to diet.
>Well what causes genetic issues in brain chemistry
Mutation, unfortunate gene expression, etc
>Well what causes mutations

back we go for infinity.
