Since when in history being rich is synonymous with being evil?

The perception probably started after Christianity became mainstream, considering their portrayal of wealthy men as being worldly and sinful. "Easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God" and all that.

since the slave morality of Christianity and subsequently Liberalism took hold in the global consciousness
rich men and camels etc etc
>since human beings felt envy
>since people with wealth/influence have used it to get what they want
>since people have used wealth to undermine/harm others
>forever

When the Jews wanted to eliminate their gentile competitors
Not just Christianity.
Rich people are being portrayed as evil and greedy oppressors in other cultures as well.
were people like crassus seen as evil in their day, or is that due to christianity

given that he charged people to put out their fires literally while their houses were burning down, I'd doubt he was very popular

When things start going wrong the rich become evil, as their leadership is discredited. An example is that there was a famine/drought with the Mayans and the Mayan peasants/lower classes murdered their elites with ritual sacrifice, de-fleshing, post-death mutilation, and cast them into whatever the name of their wells were.
So I imagine the first time an agricultural society with a visibly and wealthy agricultural elite got hit by a famine.

Pretty much for most of history before the 1900s.
This is because 99% of people rich were born into it. The peons were exploited like slaves and 98% of the merchant class barely had it any better.

The rich, historically, act against the interest of the state and its people.
Feudalism is when the state and the man are the same, and possibly the only time a rich man would invest in the state.
