We'd definitely recognize erectus or the other homos.

Homo sapiens all look the same. You're fooled because your brains are all designed to pick out the differences. And you know I'm right because you experience this effect when looking at other races.

Homo erectus is an interesting case

They are first found outside of Africa, in Georgia
and these had smaller brains than their later stages, found then in Africa

Homo erectus spread all over Eurasia
and is probably an ancestor to both Men and Neanderthals

some grew to giant size, look up Java man
literally 8 feet tall
