You know how people always argue about the existence of Socrates? Well Socrates is attested to by many people, Plato, Xenophon etc.
Aristotle on the other hand.. The supposed student of Plato and teacher of Alexander the Great doesn't seem to understand basic points in Plato's philosophy and misrepresents Plato all the time.

Aristotle was invented to create a link between Alexander the Great and Plato, as to make Alexander a mythical philosopher king.

-Aristotle's works aren't close to Platonic philosophy or any other work of the Academy
-His works were lost (or ''kept in a cellar'') after his death only to be found two hundred years later in 84BC
-In the meantime there are no references to Aristotle's work at all nor does his philosophy seems to have influenced anyone at all
-Cicero provides a list of the heads of the Academy, so that would be our source for Aristotle existing if not for the following
-Some dude 'Apellicon of Teos' purchased the complete works of Aristotle from the cellar of Neleus (who was supposedly a disciple of Aristotle). Apellicon copied the works and because they were "in bad shape" filled up the "gaps"
-Sulla takes Aristotle's complete works (forgeries) to Rome as part of his great Roman acquisition of Greek heritage
-Tyrannoin of Amisus was told to ''organise'' Apellicon's library
-Tyrannoin was in the same intelectual circle as Cicero
-Cicero invented the list
-Aristotle's works were Roman forgeries, not Greek works
-Aristotle's work were received well in Rome because they were made by Roman hands

That's disconcerting.

Maybe the Romans didn't make everything up but got the name wrong and he actually is listed and mentioned.

Are there any potential candidates of who he could be?
>>
>>2606802
How can Aristotle be a Roman forgery, if Rome itself has never existed and is a Venetian forgery?

Checkmate, atheists.

Aristotle's life was well recorded by later greek historians as well.

He also had his own school and many famous students like Theophrastus "the father of botany".

Hell, more recently even his tomb has been found.
>>
Aristotle was a student of Plato's Academy, not necessarily a pupil like someone like Antisthenes was to Socrates.

Speaking of, Plato may have fundamentally misunderstood Socrates, since Socrates seems more like a proto-Cynic than a Proto-Platonist from everything else.

>students departing from the ideas of their teachers must stem from them misunderstanding said ideas

Have you ever read Aristotle? He doesn't seem to refute Plato at any point I know of, just seems to misinterpret him.
>>
>>2607265
>He doesn't seem to refute Plato at any point I know of
He does just that (while presenting Plato's points accurately) in On Generation and Corruption and likely elsewhere as well.
>>
>>2606921
There's another anon who has recited this conspiracy theory before. OP didn't include the part about

>ever since Alexander people had been releasing their findings and thoughts on a wide variety of topics under the name Aristotle so as to give them credentials. This continues well into the Islamic period, stopping on its own well before Gemistus Pletho brings Plato back to western Eruope from Greece
The theory being that Aristotle isn't so much just a forgery, but rather a forgery that went on to become a culmination of multiple authors.
>>
>>2606802
>"nor does his philosophy seem to have influenced anyone at all"
Is this a new meme I haven't heard of?
Aristotle influenced all of the Islamic world during their philosophical period
>>
>>2607312
He means "influenced anyone in between Plato and the West/Islamic world getting a boner over him".

That is, why did no one give a shit about Aristotle in between his death and the rediscovery of his works?
>>
>>2607265
He develops a more parsimonious theory of properties in his Categories you cur
>>
>>2606933
What sources lead you to come to this conclusion? It's interesting, I really want to learn more about it.
>>
>>2606933
>Speaking of, Plato may have fundamentally misunderstood Socrates,
Or, he just rejected what he had learned after thinking about what makes more sense.
