Why did the peasants chimp out during forced collectivization?

They were defending their right to property, their right to make a living, their right to have food. But Stalin and his henchmen couldn't stand this so they carried Holodomor, killing tens of millions of Ukrainians.

Did forced collectivization imply a negative affect on their quality of life? Surely, it wasn't all for property, they must have been fucked over in other ways.
