As I say I skipped a couple of years when most people studied history (14-16) because I didn't like it then. I did geography instead.

So maybe the Empire was taught at that time, I don't know.

For A Level (16-18) the only British history I did was British domestic politics, from the same time as the Empire actually, around 1820 I guess to 1920, BUT it was purely focused on domestic politics. Gladstone's Liberal Party, the Liberal Prime Ministers of Asquith and David Lloyd George, etc. And the start of the Labour Party. We studied those things. We didn't study the Empire.

Also ironically I *did* study the Louisiana Purchase, and the Mexican-American War, because I did three modules on American history: one was the causes of the Civil War, one was the Civil War itself, and the other was American race relations from 1865 - 1965.

So yeah, I studied more American history than British history in those last two years. But that's because I happened to have a teacher who specialised in American history. The other history class in our year group studied Italian Unification and German Unification instead.
