Original tatars were more asian looking. Bulgars were more european looking. Today bulgarians are mostly mix of bulgars, thracian and slavs. When Old Great Bulgaria fall, one of the brothers settled on Volga river. Another one on Danube river. Those bulgars in Volga Bulgaria mixed heavily with the tatars.
