Hi all, next month I'll join a friend and walk the Hadrians wall path, does anyone have book recommendations on the wall/ Hadrian? I'm currently reading Memoirs of Hadrian by Yourcenar and it's pretty good, but more specific books about the wall or Romans in England are very welcome

Also, it is a visible border on the Empire more than a defensive works. Hadrian not only wanted to defend the border, he wanted to set it in stone and stop further expansion.
Britain was the one place where the edge of empire was short enough to literally be set in stone, elsewhere he set up limes by wooden walls or even lines of unconnected fortifications.
