quebec was essentially catholic iran before, 50, 60 years behind the rest of europe in terms of society and even technology in some cases (my grandparents did not get a phone until 1969, even then it was a party line). the quiet revolution was we stopped having 12 inbred kids with no shoes and stopped blindly voting for whatever english politicians the priests were paid to shill for. the power vacuum was filled with nationalist and socialist politicians, giving birth to the independence movement. the french working class finally got a voice and our quality of life vastly improved.

Anglos had the majority population since 1840, there's no way we would have ever caught back, also it's what gave birth to Quebec when we stopped following the Catholic church and anglos down every cliff they directed us to.
