OP, read Plutarch. Haven't read Plutarch's "Life of Marius" but his "Life of Sulla" is really interesting.

Plutarch says that Sulla started to feel ill for a while and then enormous quantities of insects came out of his asshole and he died.

I'm just trying to say that there's some good stuff in the original texts that a lot of the modern historians skip over because it "seems inaccurate", or doesn't fit in to whatever political narrative they are trying to push.
