Got one!
> used as a way to control people
That is kinda true.
But the fact is that in the past religion was a mean to explain the unexplainable, which today is being progressively done by the sciences, some of which had fellow christians as innovators (Look at Galileo Galilei for example)
Religion is disappearing IMHO, it would reappear if there was less technology and knowledge. Not because it is matter of ignorants, but because it is an "easy" way to explain what is unexplainable.
I would really love to be a believer, but unfortunately I became atheist by the age of 14

Would be good to revisit it at a more advanced level periodically. Very few of the convictions I had when I was 14 stand up to scrutiny today, at least not without major updates.
>implying people don't need to be controlled

It was a plague set out to destroy or enslave humanity. A plague just like Judaism and Islam. A plague that should have been contained to a few and not beable to spread.

this
An outdated and pedantic belief system that people only cling on to for cultural reasons rather than any real conviction.
It deserves to be destroyed.
