So did those islands in the middle become mountain tops or what?
>>
Why call it "Aral Sea" if can hardly see?
>>
>>2553265
Yesterday I had the tap on and the sink had water in it. Then I turned the tap off and before long the water was gone. How does this occur?
>>
this >>2553277
It is classic case of the tragedy of the commons.

Capitalists enjoy preserving the environment whereas the mob tramples all over it.
>>
>>2553277
ah yes the famous Marx doctrine of draining the seas.
>>
>>2553265
Something to do with reverting river flow
>>
>>2553365
Are you playing dumb? The feedwaters were diverted for irrigation by the USSR
>>
>>2553277

The Aral Sea dried up in the 90s and 2000s long after communism.
>>
>>2553473
>90s
>long after communism
You fucking melt
Also it was Soviet redirection of inflows for means of irrigation that did it. The Aral Sea is an endoheric basin in a fucking desert. All it took was one of the two rivers to be fucked with for evaporation to exceed inflow and the water level to slowly recede over the course of half a century.
>>
>>2553502
Communists will do ANYTHING to push the blame for their own fuckups onto capitalism.

Chernobyl? Kyshtym? Capitalism did it. Lake Karachay being a radioactive basin so dangerous you can't swim in it for an hour? Capitalism did it. Heavy metal contamination in Central Asian silt contributing to increased cancer rates to this day? ALL CAPITALISM'S FAULT

Go to 8/leftypol/ and half of them will agree digging the earth out for heavy metals is a good idea. These people don't give a FUCK about the environment, they use it as a selling point to trick the ants into following them.
>>
>gommunimusers make famines they are horrible people :(((((((
Well, I guess we change the flow of the rivers so we can irrigate the fields in this dry steppe
>gommunismusers are destroy ecosistems they horrible people:(((((((
>>
>>2553572
Too bad the region is even more famine prone now that the entire fucking sea is gone.

>think you can do better than god
>fuck it up
>IT ALL CAPITALISMS FAULT U MEANIES
>>
>>2553572
what the fuck man
the famine in ukraine came from shipping the rich peasant farmers to siberia
as for the aral sea debacle, sure mabe their intentions were somewhat for the benift of some but it was incredibly short sighted and created SO much more prone to famine now. Not to mention the cariogenic seabed that is now being spread across the region in dust storms.
and then you look at other parts of the USSR and shit like this keeps cropping up like >>2553525 mentions
are you fucking 14 or something?
>>
>>2553606
christ I'm tired that made little sense
>>
>>2553584
those fields are still being irrigated, though.
>>
>>2553584

>The damn communists diverted the rivers and drained the sea! It's all their fault!
>I see. Now that the communists are gone, are you going to undo their irrigation projects and let the rivers fill the sea again?
>No lol.
>>
>>2553609
>>2553606
I understood it fine
>>
>le communists did it
>le capitalists did it

Why is it so hard for people to grasp that regardless of ideology there will always be those who will fuck everything up for short term gain?

ESPECIALLY when it comes to the environment
>>
>>2553624
>USSR collapses in 1991
>by then the process has started and farms are reliant on the drainage

WELL GEE WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO?
>>
>>2553637

If you truly value the sea more than the farms, let the farms fail. If not, then stop complaining. Obviously trading the sea for the farms was beneficial for you.
>>
>>2553644
Right because anon sets Russian policy.
>>
Russians drained the Aral to make Central Asia reliant on them solely. Don't listen to the ideologues ITT. There was no other rationale other than to make Central Asia permanently a satellite of Russia come hell or high water.

Same reason why the borders are so fucked up. It's entirely Russians being Russians.
>>
>>2553650

>Step one: blame Commies.
>Step two: blame Ruskies.
>Step three: never, ever take responsibility for your own actions.
>>
>>2553675
>IT WAS ALL CAPITALISMS FAULT EVEN THOUGH WE DID IT FUCKING PORKY

>EVERYTHING WE DO IS CAPITALISM'S FAULT
>EVERYTHING

Then all your vaunted achievements of socialism are capitalism's fault as well?

>NO THAT WAS THE PEOPLE FILTHY PORKY

All communists are mentally ill.
>>
>>2553689

Do explain what the Ruskies have to do with a lake in between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

These are independent countries. If they don't like the irrigation programmes, they can undo them. The lake will then refill.
>>
>>2553265
It says so on your map. Fucking dikes man.

>>
>>2553606
despite the maliciousness of the famine being disputable, the main factor was that 80% of the crops in all Russia were from Ukraine. Making other parts of the land fertile will make the same region less prone to famine, and harder for a planned famine to take place, that will also take power away from the rich farmers, which was the plan all along by making them compete with other markets
>>
>>2553662
so much this. one look at the borders around the ferghana valley, and you it was the russians being russians
>>
>>2553748

What does that have to do with modern Uzbek/Kazakh policy?
