>Can't beat fucking post-revolutionary chaos Iran despite support from the entire world and massive firepower advantage

Why are Arabs such shitty fighters?

Iran was 4 times the size of Iraq, received weapons from US and Israel, and Iraq did beat them off in the end. It's kinda hard to win an attrition war against a much larger enemy

Iran was under an arms embargo by the west and the Soviets (starting from 1985), and Iraq received tens of billions of dollars in loans from Gulf countries, as well as high tech military gear from Europe, as well as chemical weapons, as well as having free access to satellite data from U.S.

Iran had barely any method to resupply their army, which is why they lost the war of attrition.

> received weapons from US and Israel

Iran-Contra was a one-time thing, and became a scandal for a reason.

>start a war of aggression to annex land
>get thrown out after 2 years
>spend the next 6 years fighting in your own territory

Sounds like winning to me.

Yep it's called winning.

Iraq's advantage in numbers of soldiers (not worthless militia, soldiers) and materiel was so ridiculous that this war should've been wrapped up in a few months, tops. Instead...

>Iraq had deployed 2,750 tanks, 1,400 artillery pieces, 4,000 APCs, and 340 fighter-bombers [for the invasion of Khuzestan]. Against this, Iran could muster probably no more than 500 operational tanks, 300 operation artillery pieces, and less than 100 operable aircraft. Iran had close to 100,000 troops in the Revolutionary Guards Corps, but at the time these were little more than militant students and street thugs who had no military training. Roughly one quarter of Iran's army was tied down fighting a Kurdish revolt, and Iran had only two badly depleted divisions, two equally reduced brigades, and some lightly-armed security forces to contend with the nine well-armed divisions that Iraq had committed to the invasion.

>The local balance of forces in Khuezestan was even more favorable to the Iraqis. The 92nd armored division was the only major Iranian formation in that area, and it took several days before it could deploy company-sized formations, much less the entire division. Otherwise, the Iraqis faced small platoon- and company-sized elements from the Iranian Army, Revolutionary Guards, and gendarmerie fighting mostly with small arms and without any central direction. Most of the Iranian forces did not even try to delay the Iraqi invasion, retreating to cities and other defensible positions. Nevertheless, two weeks into the campaign, the deepest Iraqi penetration was only 65 kilometers into Iran, and in most sectors the Iraqis had gone no further than 20-30 kilometers.

-Kenneth Pollack, "Arabs at War".

And the Iranians weren't super soldiers or anything, they were about as competent as other second-rate militaries like the Balkanshits. Arabs just suck at modern war.

Iraq was winning for the first two years until Iran started zergrushing human wave attacks and used their numerical advantage.
>>
>>2538899
Israel supporting Iran.

Really joggs the noggin

>zergrushing human wave attacks and used their numerical advantage

They didn't have a numerical advantage in the first place, dumbfuck. Also

>muh manpower meme

Masses of manpower are literally worthless in the face of overwhelming amounts of material. In WW2 the US calculated that each American division had like five times the effective firepower of a Japanese division despite both having about the same amount of men. The only exception is if the side with the overwhelming advantage in firepower doesn't know what they're doing.
>>
>>2539916
Iran's population was 4 times that of Iraq. They launched human waves in Dezful and Muhammerah, it's pretty much how they captured it. Then they tried doing human waves in the marshes and captured small amounts of territory and lost huge casualties in the process. Iran has much larger manpower, they just didn't train their people, they just gave them a Quran and picture of kharameini and told them to charge the machine gun positions.

In 1988 they lost all the territory it took then six years to capture in a few days and lost pretty much all their equipment. Iraq captured like 200 Iranian tanks and gifted them all to the Jordanian army.

It's almost as if Israel has never shied away from supporting Islamists
>>
>>2539831
it was more like a tie
>>
>>2540000
That's like saying ww1 was a tie. When you look at who's terms the war was ended on (Iraq) who had the final victories that ended the war (Iraq) and who came out militarily stronger (Iraq) vs who had their military capacity effectively destroyed by the end (Iran), it's pretty clear Iraq was the winner.

Iranians were mourning the ceasefire whereas Iraq was celebrating. Khomeini died a year later and even said that he drinks poison like accepting peace.

purposely misleading

>and Iraq did beat them off in the end.
Yeah, sort of. But the war started with Saddam invading and occupying a bunch of oil-rich cities in Iran and the eastern bank of Shatt al-Arab, so the end result of status quo ante was pretty far from being a success.

I mean, Iran didn't complete their objective either, but they weren't the ones who started the war.
>>
>>2540004
>When you look at who's terms the war was ended on (Iraq)

Status quo ante bellum counts as "Iraqi terms"? I thought Saddam wanted to annex Khuzestan, wasn't that why he launched the war in the first place?
