I believe there was alot of rivalry during medival times between Shaivas and Vaishnavas.

But eastern faiths are fluid so most of the time they settle disagreements with "my supreme deity is an aspect of the supreme that I identify more with etc", which actually does go with Hindu philosophy so.

Western psychoanalysis on Eastern religions has its limitations, but at the end of the day it's just another perspective.

Yeah, I mean to me it's a matter of approach. I think a work like the Mahabharata is a stunning piece of literature in its own right that we should read with all the trappings of western literary analysis, as long as it's clear that's what we're doing and treating it with respect. Rama literally shot someone in the back and killed him so the Vanaras would be under Sugriva who had sworn to assist Rama during his attack on Lanka. I doubt its Freudian.

I feel like with psychoanalytics like her and Zizek the quality of observations and theories vary wildly. You can see her make profound comments about the different gender and sex roles in Hindu myths and you can get "elephant god's trunk looks like a benis lol".
The unfortunate thing about reactionary idiots making knee jerk accusations about her is that she kind of dismisses many criticisms as being born of national/religious pride.
