The quest for "equality" is arguably the most destructive philosophical movement ever to have begun. Enlightenment thinkers reduced real world interaction to algebraic equation and tried to create 1/1 ratios - this does not work because variables in such an equation can not only not be isolated but many cannot even be perceived by an external force such as government.
The quest of equality despite it is not a "natural" force and has to be artificially educed means that individuals will always become self destructive when attempting to apply a "Metaphysical" principal to a "Physical" frame.

In a way it already has been overcome, we just need to practice it.

Jesus' life and deeds are a testament to the overcoming of tribe mentality. He broke narrow minded tribism and looked towards a universal brotherhood of man: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one". He brought everyone to his table and turned away none, he didn't turn from the sick, the poor, the meek but touched them deeply. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is so powerful because it acknowledges our fundamental similarity and our basic shared constitution.

The Buddhist teaching of dependant origination is another good way to break down the tribal mentality. The self is made of nonself parts, including the other. When you separate from or harm the other, it is effectively self harm. A true understanding of reality sees the interconnection/interbeing of all things and motivates a compassionate attitude.

Whether you choose these models or some others, i think tribalism had already been defeated in theory. This victory just needs to be remembered and practiced everyday, especially on the smallest levels of our everyday lives.

I'll stop being a tribalist just as soon as those disgusting and loathesome OTHERS stop competing for my calories and orgasms.

However, they'll also inflict pain on those who anger them, so man is inherently evil. People also take more than they need given the chance, so man is inherently gluttonous then. But! They will also share with one another their wealth, so many is inherently generous.

Man wants to preserve his culture and language in the face of an influx of newcomers? Man is inherently tribal. Man welcomes the knowledge of others and lives contentedly with people who look and speak differently than himself? Man is inherently tolerant.
