Wrong
>>
>>2517250
Charles II, a literal drooling retard and still a better ruler than democratically elected Obama.
>>
>>2517250
Nope, demoncrazy was a mistake
>>
The problem with monarchy is succession based upon primogeniture. Succession should instead be based upon the idea of meritocratic adoption i.e. the ruler adopts as his heir the person who they feel is most suited for the job of ruling. It wouldn't always be perfect, some times a ruler may misjudge, but I feel would largely avoid the pitfalls of typical monarchic succession.
>>
>>2517766
There'd need to be a way to take a ruler out of power, otherwise you're at the basic problem of such systems in that governmental change becomes impossible without revolution or civil war.
>>
>>2517766
>Succession should instead be based upon the idea of elective succession
FIFY.

>A system of government that existed with humanity since the dawn of time, lasted for millennia with barely any hiccups, was responsible for many of the cultural and technological advancements across human history, and only recently was replaced by alternative government types like democracy
>a mistake
>>
>>2517777
Like a... democracy?
>>
>>2517250
>that moment when you realize constitutional elective monarchy is the best system in existence
>>
>Hereditary monarchy was a mistake

FTFY
>>
>>2517250
Inbreeding was a mistake.
So was the (probably necessary) practice of aggrandizing nobles and their endless scheming.

>>2518138
>elective
Aka: all the downsides of oligarchy and democry with none of the benefits.
>>
>>2518051
Trusting anything to elections opens the path up for corruption and bribery to a greater extent. Look at how the Renaissance papacy was determined via bribery and other bullshit.
>>
>>2518138
worked well for poland and the hre didn't it
>>
>>2518927
The only difference is that you have to bribe dozens of people instead of just one.
>>
>>2517700
How so?
>>

>balanced budget
>kept spain out of wars
>improved relations with allies
>ushered in an era of recovery
Charles II was actually one of the better Spanish kings

take charles II of spain as example for all the monarchy is not the good way. But well, monarchy was good for a time, and I don't think that life is better today

she looks like putin, gross!
>>
>>2520365
Republics based on republican tradition are cool, but it's a bit lame if they're too fresh from promising Monarchies (see: Brazil).
