Historically the point of marriages were to have children and continue a bloodline/join two family's by blood. So the best way to ensure that any offspring the wife has is also the husband's biologically and not a bastard, it is best for the bride to be a virgin. I think the main problem with the objectors of moral relativism is that they think the people who believe in it can't or don't have solid morals.
