The river boat on the right existed for thousands of years and may be indicative of some of the earliest boat-building technologies. People used that design up until very recently despite newer technologies being available because it was simple yet still effective. The longboat on the right was a product of the 8-10th Century A.D. and was based on the techniques and models of a myriad of cultures beforehand in a completely different environments than the Nile-River boat.
