or is it a state of mind?

crudely, existentialism is a state of mind
stuff like absurdism and christian existentialism are ideologies and approaches that aim to address it

Ok, But when does existentialism become an ideology? And by then, do we still call it existentialism?
Is existentialism a form of nihilism, or is nihilism a result of an existential crisis?
When someone reaches that point of life in which we call an existential crisis, do they become an existentialist? Or is it all still a subjective experience?

Adding this:
Google describes existentialism as a philosophical theory or approach that emphasizes the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their own development through acts of the will.
Which to me doesn't make much sense, since the description above describes free-will in which a person could achieve without going through an existential crisis. To me existentialism was about the realization of the high probability that we might be alone in this universe or at least the absence of higher deity that could control the flow of our lives.
Humanities was a mistake.

Why?
None of these are ideologies, they're philosophies

He's an autistic memer who's repeating what he heard other people say
In reality this entire board was a mistake since it became an outpost for reddit and newfags

The word ideology is synonymous to ideas, belief, principle or ethics.
And once you connect a couple of ideas together you form a theory or other words an Ideology that could be theoretically applied.
Nihilism is considered an ideology in modern times due to the principles that it holds. That nothing that we do matters, we all are going to die and that is that.
Now a person can live up to those principles if they chose too. It doesn't always have to be positive thing, they might do something that could negative to them or to the environment they inhabit, so, technically it is still an ideology.
That's why I believe that existentialism is nothing more than a state of mind, since there is no ideology behind it other than an epiphany or a crisis that not everyone might experience.

>is this your first time baiting here?
Hardly. Is this your first time trying to sound smart?
I'd say more the latter. The general theme of existentialism seems to be personal authenticity, so maintaining an existentialist state of mind is a matter of being honest with yourself about what you want to do with yourself.
