How to study European history (particularly Holy Roman Empire centuries) when there's literally thousands of tiny territories? I.e do I stick with the big players, Prussia, and Habsburgs, or what? I get easily lost, especially with all the allegiances etc. Is there a method to the madness when studying this contentious era?
