Cause he planted the glove. Even if OJ did commit the murder (probably greater than 50% chance he did), the LAPD fucked with the evidence too much and the prosecution fucked up the case too hard, it would have been a breach of justice if OJ was convicted.
I'd rather have a system that occasionally lets guilty people go free than a system that occasionally convicts innocent people. In a country ruled by law, you can't just convict someone cause you know they did it, you need to have evidence that's legal and procedural. It's why if the police break into your house without a warrant and obtain evidence you did a crime, you can't go to prison even though there's evidence proving you did it.
The OJ case ended up more about keeping LAPD powers in check than convicting OJ, which if you think about it is more significant than one random murder case.
