my take on why modern art is so shit is that there is the same reason for it's invention
the rejection of classical values and their institutions

without institutions training and validating an art, there is no checks of merit and skill within an art scene
modern and post-modern art are both guided by their complete rejection of these institutions and any specific or universal criteria of skill/merit associated with old world artistic values
this in itself led to the movement being self-masturbatory and being hypocritical, as modern art just became a scene of people trying hard to not be critiqued in by any institutional means and yet became critiqued by their own loose institutions of social groups and politically-charged underground scenes that mostly just based their critiques off of:

>the prestige of the individual within said underground scenes
