The need to keep living is in itself. We are fed by hormones which give us desire to do things. Even a depressive suicidal person satisfies his/her desire by desiring death, that person will live for that even though I bet she/he wouldn't like to do so.

People normally don't attribute life to society but we live for it as ants do for their colony. They don't even feel and they work together in an emphatic way.

Imo, the goal of life is to have the most quantity of chemical variation so it can be an increasingly greater supraorganism.
