What happened in the 20th century that changed India so much? Was it really over population, or perhaps it was the caste system?
Western capitalists exploiting them

Didn't the western capitalists build the means of productions in India? I'm pretty sure India did not have any what so ever means of productions before the British colonized them. I don't think the Turkic rulers were too interested in building up any factories.

No. Indian economy was flatlined for the duration of their colonial existence, and has been steadily climbing since then. My Indian coworker visited family recently and summed it thusly: "I didn't have electricity until I was 25; now when I visit I can't even buy anything without my phone."

Ok, why blame it on western capitalists when Indian capitalists fuck over their own kind with a rigid caste system?

>why blame it on western capitalists
...for the reason I just said.

Well it helps that industrial production didn't flower until after India had been colonized. You need to read a lot more, kiddo.
